40th Anniversary of the Summer of Love
“The Spirit Goes On in Me and You”
July and August 2007

Group exhibition of artists: Leo Holub, Egor Sovtsov, Jean Weinbaum, Peter A. Etzer, Miroslau Brizis

We invite you to experience the 40th anniversary of the Summer of Love in the upcoming group show at Himmelberger Gallery, “The Spirit Goes On in Me and You”, inspired by the song ‘Summer of Love’, written by Marty Balin, co-founder of the San Francisco rock band the Jefferson Airplane.

The spirit of the 1960's, and most specifically the essential meaning of The Summer of Love in San Francisco, which called upon each person to determine what action can be undertaken to make our community a better world to live in, continues to speak to us, perhaps more strongly now than ever. This is the theme of the exhibition, and in many ways the mission statement of the gallery.

During July and August a collection of artists will be featured who capture the spirit of the Summer of Love in contemporary terms. These artists exemplify the freedom of the 60's in their compositions with feverish colors and organic shapes. Like the revered poets and songwriters from forty years ago, they expand on the themes of love, peace and unity.

San Francisco photographer Leo Holub captured not only the energy, excitement and controversy of the 60s, but also the essence of those times in the Bay Area.

In dedication to the hope for human coexistence, Himmelberger Gallery welcomes you to experience the creations of several artists who maintain the spirit of the Summer of Love.
